Hello #clubtwenties!

May 08, 2016

Sometimes I don't understand why people celebrate birthdays. Or anniversaries. Or anything that has something to do with an event annually. Why do you celebrate something? This time, when I had my twentieth birthday last April, I questioned myself; what's the point of celebrating your birthday? Why do people give gifts for the birthday person? Why do you give a treat for your friends when you're having a birthday? Why do you celebrate it when really, it's just you getting a year older.

I'm probably missing the point here, or maybe because I don't take this birthday thing in a good way. A year older means I have to be more aware of who I am, and what I'm gonna do in my life next. I'm officially twenty years old now. I'm in the age where people say I'm gonna determine my life in my twenties. My study, career, love life, and family.

Maybe they celebrate birthdays to congratulate a person for being success on going through another year of living their life. Birthdays are like new years. It signs a new beginning, a new hope, a new resolution for a person. Maybe this is why they celebrate birthdays.

Being a twenty years old woman that I am today, I have to learn how to woman-up. Set aside my selfish and dependent self. Aim for better and higher quality of life. I am thankful that I have the people I love by my side even until today to remind me that every year, I will have to strive to be a better person.
